We visited Easton Lodge because of the snowdrop festival.

It's a very big area and while there clearly are vast numbers of snowdrops, they are well spread out. Given it's late winter the rest of the garden is as you would expect, and clearly different in the summer.

My main area of concern isn't the snowdrops, but the shambolic origination of the event and the total disregard to customer safety.

There is a small car park, which is mostly on grass. Given recent rain it was fast disappearing under mud. The “overflow” car park used the old airfield, and also had no separation of people walking to/from their cars and traffic.

The entrance into the event was very muddy and had very minimal metal sheeting provided. It was thus slippery and dangerous.

This is an event in February and it's reasonable for the event managers to expect heavy rain and supply metal sheeting for main walkways etc.

There was a long queue to enter – we had pre purchased tickets with a bar code. The bar code was not used and the member of staff (slowly) entered surnames into his hand held terminal. His colleague stood there watching as the queue grew!

Cakes/food was on sale. I'm guessing these were home made. No allergy information was on display. Home made food can contain any number of ingredients which are dangerous to some people – and beyond doubt allergy information should have been clearly displayed.

I believe the garden is run mostly by volunteers. Never the less there is still a legal duty of care on the event manager – it is totally unacceptable to say “well it's run by volunteers, they do their best” (Especially if someone is injured, or worse, by their lack of knowledge of acceptable practices in running a big event open to the public)

The gardens are beautifully maintained with an enormous variety of plants. The staff are friendly and the map guide and information boards very informative. Parking is plentiful and there are many benches around the site.
Despite the multitude of brown tourist signs in the area, the actual entrance isn't easy to find.
I was disappointed that most plants weren't labelled.

Thank you for your positive review. We are working hard to provide plant labelling in the Gardens but sometimes the labels are hidden under leaves or have been knocked out of position by people. Please ask any of the Garden helpers or leave a message at the pay desk and we will be happy to help with any queries you may have.

I’ve been visiting here for many years and love it more each time I go. A little haven away from the real world and a wonderful piece of local history. The cream teas are delicious! Perfect space for families, couples or older people - something for everyone. The hard work the volunteers undertake really shows and it’s nice to see the progress each time I visit.

I hadn't visited the gardens for about 5 years. It was great then but amazing to see how much more has been developed. Kitchen walled garden is amazing. Fantastic results. Must have been seriously hard work.

I took my Niece and Family for a sanctioned private trip round the gardens, A Place to enjoy the stunning views, to walk or just sit and relax for all the family. The Seasons are all different in the gardens, The Italian and Walled Gardens are superbly kept by volunteers who put in tireless hours for the enjoyment of the visitors on scheduled Open days. Obviously the virus has meant the gardens have been closed.... BUT all being well, I gather will re-open on 19th July. So why not pop along and enjoy the experience and Scenery. Have a look at their web site for current information.

I don't often write reviews but felt I really wanted to in this case...
We visited yesterday and had such a wonderful day. These stunning gardens are just alive with beauty, magic and the deepest sense of peace. There are lovely traditional games laid out for all the family, giant chess, croquet on the lawn, live music (I think it was a brass band of some kind). Then there are the trees...Oh my goodness. They tell a story all of their own. We lunched in an idyllic little corner of the walled garden, surrounded by rosemary, while bees and butterflies buzzed and fluttered around us!! And the restoration of the tree house is nothing but miraculous!! The peace I felt up there was just wonderful, with the wise old oak tree that stands in the middle of the house, an amazing focal point. I think we could see at least 2 animal faces marked out in the tree...and I must touch on the volunteers...this place is so well loved. Everything here is a tribute to the hard work of the volunteers. The grounds are beautifully maintained and cared for and the staff so lovely and friendly. Can't wait to go back! I really felt like I was stepping back in time..what a special, special place!! 😊
If you love nature and are looking for a peaceful retreat for the day, then this is It!! Highly recommended!!

This was a group visit receiving a warm welcome. The party was divided into three, each given a knowledgeable guide. The detailed history of the house and estate was fascinating and the grounds a delight to walk around. We even managed to push three wheelchairs around. All the volunteers were helpful and served up excellent cake and drinks at the end of the tour. We only had 2 hours available and would have welcomed more. The visit was considered a very worthwhile experience.

Easton Lodge gardens opens once a month on a Sunday. In July we had all things 40s - to link to the important history of the grounds and airfield opposite during WWII. As well as local craft and plant stalls and live music there was plenty of opportunity to explore the large gardens. On the lawn by the house, the sundial garden was recreated for the millennium. Only a small part of the house remains and is in private ownership. Directly in front of the house is a flower border with a lily pond and pavilion at the end. Very popular with bees and butterflies. The Kitchen garden has been brought back into use since 2014 and remains a work in progress. It has been planted with fruit trees local to the region as well as vegetables and flowers to cut. A long avenue leads down to the lake at the far end of the lawn. There are a number of unusual trees here and on the lawn by the house. The most striking feature, and undergoing some much needed restoration, is the Italian garden designed in the 1900s by Harold Peto. The planting is lovely but there is much more restoration on the stonework still to do. The most popular feature for children is the re-created tree house. A lovely afternoon out for all ages.

Thank you for such a lovely review, the tree house is always a hit with the children! The Italian garden is still a work in progress but we hope that once the restoration work is complete it will be back to its former glory. We look forward to welcoming you back to the gardens in the near future.
