Luke was knowledgeable and really tried to get us to all the spots where we would see bears. We were able to see a momma bear and her cub. One of my favorite highlights of my Alaska cruise!

We had a great time on the excursion. Luke was a very knowledgeable guide and made the tour fun. He was adaptable to the groups needs and was well prepared incase any bears came close to us. We were lucky to see 3 bears and 2 eagles. He can also speak Spanish for any Spanish speaking travellers.

Our family had a wonderful experience with Luke! He is personable, easy to talk to, friendly and very knowledgeable. He made our entire group feel right at home. Luke knows the area, the bears, wildlife, the plants and the history of the area. Why else would his nickname be “Bear King”. Trust me, this is the bear tour that you want to take and you want Luke to be your tour guide. He cares about everyone and wants to make sure you have a great experience! If we were to ever be fortunate enough to make it back to Hoonah, know that we would all agree that we would contact Luke for another bear tour!

We had a previous excursion booked on Hoonah but ended up with some extra time. We ended up on the Wild Bear Safari with Luke. This is the second time I have done a similar excursion on Hoonah and the thing that you should know is that you’re not guaranteed to see bears. That being said it’s really important that you pick a fun and knowledgeable guide because there’s a chance that they are your main entertainment! Luke drove us all around the island and though we didn’t see bears we were not bored a single time! 10/10 highly recommended any of these local bear tours but especially with Luke Meyers at Wild Bear Safari.

Luke is AWESOME!! Enjoyed his stories and the trip on the beautiful island where we ported (Icy Strait Point). Even without seeing a bear, the adventure into Tongass would be worth the time. But, don’t worry…Luke makes it his mission to find bears. Luke is like a big teddy bear himself…so, you’ll enjoy making a new friend in him. I was also extremely impressed with his “coolness” factor with a 13-year-old guest who was invited to ride shotgun upfront. Luke completely engaged the young man and made the otherwise adult tour fun for him, too (shout out to you, Evan!!) If you have the opportunity to meet Luke and join his tour, you will have a great day!!
