Stadtviertel: West End

I visited the spa for the Escape at One experience last weekend with my partner. I had been to the Spa a number of years ago and remember not being too impressed, but had heard that there had been a refurb so thought I would give it another go.
I can't say I noticed exactly what had been refurbished. I thought for a 5* hotel the spa was really underwhelming. It was a very busy afternoon and the 'quiet zone' was not at all quiet. I couldn't hear any relaxing music over the noise of other guests if there was any at all. There was none of the lovely essential oil smell in the air that you get at most spa's. The Hammam was absolutely stinking of sweat, I couldn't even enter. The door for the the shower I used in the ladies changing rooms wouldn't lock, and the tiles were peeling off the walls.
Overall - okay to get a sweat on, but not great for any kind of relaxing experience. I would say worth £40-£50 but nowhere near the £95pp we paid. Whilst the Balmoral and Kimpton spa's are much smaller and don't offer as many facilities, the overall zen and quality of these places outstrip the One Spa by an absolute mile.

My fiancé and I booked to use the One Spa facilities for my birthday and were sorely disappointed. Similar to another review, I really want to stress that it is absolutely not worth the price tag. The rooftop pool is dated, and honestly really grimy with visible rust everywhere. It feels as though people are being squashed in like cattle, not an enjoyable experience and not what you would expect from the high price tag. Really poor value for money!

There are a nice selection of rooms with a couple of saunas, a salt room, hamman, laconium, relaxing heated loungers and the outdoor heated jacuzzi pool.
My main gripe is that it’s generally so busy and sometimes people are very selfish and put their towels and belongings on the hot beds when they aren’t using them.
But staff are friendly and facilities are good.
It can sometimes be tricky getting a space in the car park and the spaces are very tight.

My wife and I visited yesterday. Having visited numerous Hammams and Salt Caves in Turkey we were very disappointed with the poor interpretations on offer at One Spa.
Apart from that, it was a nice relaxing experience but I don't think we will return.

The facilities are no doubt pretty awesome, amazing range of sauna/steam room/ experience showers.
However the experience is pretty much completely ruined by people talking loudly in every room, people on their phones playing games (?!), despite all the signs saying ‘quiet area’.
Seems overbooked, I went on a Thursday afternoon and paid £85, can’t imagine what it’s like on a weekend.
I even got tutted at for taking up too much space in a steam room, by a group of women who were chatting non stop extremely loudly.
Honestly would be so lovely if it wasn’t so busy/unmanaged, probably all you would need is to have a couple of staff enforcing the quiet rule or just put some better signs up. Basically no one uses a towel in the saunas as the signs says.
I’d come back but not at full price. And there’s a weird smell at the hydro pool entrance!

Great spa experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent facilities including two saunas for f different temperatures for those who can’t stand the heat. Steam rooms too that have one cooler than the other. The outdoor pool is a great experience too. Highly recommended.

I've been looking forward to enjoying a few hours of relaxation with the Escape at One experience. I fully expected it to be busy during the weekends so I booked myself in for a weekday, early afternoon. When I phoned to book, I was told they had plenty of availability for that time, which led me to believe it would have been a quiet time. Having heard good things about the pool and the thermal suites a few years ago, and having enjoyed similar experiences at other places I was excited to spend the rainy February afternoon relaxing at One.
The staff were very friendly and the first impressions were good. I got given the wristband to allow access to the hydro pool and the thermal suites, a member of staff showed the way and explained how to access various parts of the spa. The changing rooms were clean (not completely spotless, some people having left their used towels and robes on the benches, but nice and tidy otherwise), the selection of complimentary robes, towels and slippers was good, so I got changed, showered, and headed towards the pool.
The first pool you get to is the one that the hotel guests can use, so it was a little busy, and it looked a bit dated but otherwise clean. As all of the beds by the pool were taken or had towels draped over them, I headed past the barriers that had a sign saying for One Spa wristband holders only, however they were open and unsupervised so any of the guests could easily walk in anyway. There were probably about 10 or so poolside beds by the hydro pools, however every single one of them had towels and dressing gowns draped over them, so presumably they had been "claimed" already. There are of course hooks on the walls as well where you can hang your towel and the dressing gown. The indoor hydro pool was much smaller than I expected, the areas around it quite rusty and grimy, which I suppose happens over time, and there were three couples and a couple of single guests in it already, so with not that much room for everyone to relax and move around I spent a couple of minutes in it, and headed for the outdoor pool, which is accessed directly from the indoor pool. With the rain beating down it was lovely to be in the warm water, while the rain was cooling down the face. However that's where the relaxation ended. The rooftop pool was smaller than it appeared in the photos, or perhaps it appeared smaller as I counted between 15 and 20 people using it. The "benches" or the areas to lie down on to enjoy the streams were all taken, as in there were over 15 people on them already, while myself and another 3-4 guests were moving around the "waterfall taps" waiting for someone to move. Despite it being a rooftop spa, there isn't that much of a view to enjoy, but I guess it can't be helped. Eventually someone moved and I got a space to lie down on, and it was lovely, however with there being so many people in and the stream of people continuously coming in and out, you feel obliged to move on pretty swiftly to allow others to enjoy the pool, too. So I headed for the thermal suites. There are signs explaining how to use each room and they also ask for the guests to try and keep the voices down (I believe it is referred to as the "quiet area" so that everyone can enjoy a relaxing experience.Hammam was lovely and quiet to start with, and it was probably my favourite room, until when within 10 minutes more guests arrived and there were 7 of us in it, some guests chatting away. All the other rooms seemed to be busy, too, not too busy, but busy enough so there was an audible chatter everywhere. The dry salt room was another one of my favourites, very clean and pleasant. After warming up in a few of the rooms, I really wanted to try the quiet relaxation room, which, luckily, was empty. The log fire wasn't on (or wasn't working), but the "twinkling sky" ceiling looked quite relaxing and the chairs are very comfortable. The only problem was that although the room is a quiet room, you can hear everyone walking and talking outside of it, so on that particular day there wasn't much relaxation with people going in and out, and chatting outside the door.
After a little time in the relaxation room, once more people started coming in and with there being only three seats/beds I felt I had to move on to allow others to enjoy it, so I decided to try the outdoor pool again. It was even busier now, and despite me being sure I'd seen signs specifically asking not to use the phones at the pools, there were several couples and a group of people posing for photos and taking selfies in the pool, while others were waiting for a space on the "airbeds". I waited for a little while while enjoying the swan neck shower massage on my shoulders, however noone seemed to move and there were more people visibly waiting for someone to move, so I decided to leave, especially with the people moving around trying to take photos without anyone else in the shot. I was going to use the indoor pool, however it was busier now, so I felt it was best to call it a day. Although I believe the booking allows it for a three hour experience, an hour and a bit was enough for me. My main disappointment comes from the fact that it seemed overbooked, and with the amount of people using the facilities at the same time during a weekday afternoon I dread to think what it is like on a weekend. Another disappointment follows as I was looking forward to a relaxing peaceful experience, however with so many people in, talking and waiting for someone to move it is difficult to relax or not feel rushed. Having said that, the thermal suites are lovely and clean, and I am sure if there is ever a time when there aren't dozens of people milling about, they would provide a pleasant and relaxing experience.
Still, I feel as if the marketing materials and online photos sell an image of an experience that the actual spa doesn't quite live up to. Perhaps when it was brand new and lesser known it was as lovely and relaxing as the website or Instagram portray it to be, but in reality the experience is not worth the money and there are other hotels and spas that may have fewer facilities but provide a better experience. I would say there is no way the Escape at One for One experience is worth £85, the experience I had would be something I'd expect to have if I'd paid £30-£40. I'd had hoped to enjoy my afternoon and to return again and book a procedure or two for the next visit, but to be honest I wouldn't bother returning. In my opinion, there are better options offered elsewhere.

Booked an all day spa package.
First impressions are of total disorganisation. We weren’t allowed to use the lockers, so had to lug all our belongings around to different waiting areas, the treatment area, then back to the waiting area. Only allowed to use the lockers after lunch, no real reason given and was completely irritating.
Then the treatment itself. It was advertised as three hours of your choice. What was delivered was 2hours 15, at best, of a prearranged sequence. No option to select what you wanted and if your therapist wasn’t very good, then tough. The room was freezing so very difficult to relax. This seemed unable to be changed even though I asked repeatedly.
With 6 hours of booked time, at almost £300, you would expect lunch to be included, but no. Fleeced you for on over priced panini and my personal annoyance, a compulsory service charge added even though it was counter service.
Lastly there were the facilities. The big draw is the outdoor hydro pool, but it was just not heated enough to be comfortable. Impossible to stay in the water for any length of time. Very disappointing.
Steam rooms etc were fine but not anything special. Showers and dressing area very overcrowded for the number of users.
In summary, overpriced, underwhelming and overall a total waste of money. Avoid.

I had a fantastic facial and full body massage at One Spa. Emma's service was very attentive and she explained very clearly the type of products she was using. She made me choose a few of the scents which was nice. During the facial she used UV lights to show me my skin type and identify some issues that we could target with the facial treatment. Stellar service

For myself and my sister this was a big treat. We were gifted a voucher to use. On arrival, helpful if staff smiled. We were happy the Spa wasn’t too busy. Disappointing that the cafe stops serving at 4pm. Changing facilities were acceptable 👍 We used the swimming pool, this was lovely. Around the pool are loungers with a centre table and lamps with a blue shade. Lots of bulbs were out! Would be so much nicer if these were all working. Outside pool was great. I agree with other reviews that some of the rooms like Hammam were not at a sufficient temperature. We made the most of our visit and enjoyed the break. Relaxation room was lovely. The Spa definitely needs some attention to make it fabulous. Attention to detail is needed and a welcome with a smile definitely makes a difference.

Hi - I was just wondering, is it the rooftop pool that under 16s are allowed in at certain times? I'd like to book here for my birthday (staying in the hotel), but with my teenage sons, so just trying to figure out if it would be worth it.

Yes. It is open to public. There are two kinds of entrance fee: I) just pool, II) pool and spa part without treatments. Then treatments on top.
If you are a hotel guest and an SPG member option II is covered.

It depends on which type of subscription you have. I had a one months subscription, and would receive a bracelet upon check-in that i can use throughout the day without assistance. I would need to return the bracelet upon check-out.
